It is time to elect the Attorney General of the United States. The position as the top legal officer of the country is far too important to be a political hack. Over forty states elect their own Attorney General and that system works much better.
The history of Germany could have been very different if that law had existed.
In the United States, the vulnerability of the system could be recognized when President Kennedy appointed his brother Robert to Attorney General. Then the seriousness of the matter became quite apparent with President Nixon and his shenanigans with the Office.
AG William Barr is the ultimate warning that this should be an elected position. There will always be politics involved with the Office and we should make sure that the politics are connected to the citizens and not the President.
